Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the President of Portugal, reportedly saved two women from drowning in a beach as he jumped in to save them.
The president who was swimming at the Algarve beach saw the women from afar struggling in the water after it appeared that their kayak had capsized.
The 71-year-old President then swam to were the women were, and saved them from drowning.
After saving the women, President Sousa told journalists;
“As there is a very large west current, they were dragged out, turned around, swallowed a lot of water and were not even able to turn [the kayak], nor to climb [on it], or swim, such is the strength of the current.”
