Visitors to orphanage homes across the country, have been barred from taking pictures with children at any time during their visit.
The Coalition of orphanages and children’s home in Nigeria (COCHIN), made this known in a newsletter sent to children’s homes across the country.
COCHIN revealed that the reason for the new development is to protect the children as the photos taken by visitors are usually shared online to the “embarrassment and stigmatization of the children“.
It warned that any orphanage home that defaults, and allows visitors to take photos with the kids would pay a fine of 50,000 Naira.
Many Nigerians have lauded the new development as they took to social media to commend the coalitions decision to protect the children.
